Three women are reunited, after the publication of a murder novel informs the world about a past they had tried to forget, in ALL SHE EVER WANTED by Barbara Freethy.
Natalie Bishop is currently a resident at San Francisco's St Timothy's Hospital, achieving the goal she had worked for so hard while a student at Santa Cruz University ten years ago. Back in college, she was one of four young women who called themselves the Fabulous Four - Natalie, Laura, Madison, and a fourth girl, Emily. They were part of the same sorority and had banded together as four special friends who were different as night and day, yet they shared a great friendship. Natalie was the studious one, the one that had promised to take care of Emily. Laura was the all-American girl next door. Madison was the ultra-sophisticated girl, who was experienced in more ways than one. And finally, Emily was the glue that held the group together. She was full of life and adventure, but had a number of secrets that she had taken with her when she died. They were as close as sisters, and no one would have guessed that one night their lives would be changed forever, the night when Emily fell to her death from the roof of their building during a party. According to the novel that is penned by a new author named Garrett Malone, Natalie was the one that supposedly pushed Emily to her death.
Natalie learns about the book by accident while on a break at the hospital. The names had been changed, and she panics when she realizes the book is about her, the Fabulous Four, and Emily's accidental death. While Malone may have thought he had disguised the characters in the book, most people recognize who these girls really were. Natalie's career is now on hold, due to the damage the book is doing to the hospital's reputation. And her ex-boyfriend Cole, who was Emily's brother and is now working for the family newspaper, the San Francisco Tribune, finds himself in a situation where he tries to defend Natalie's innocence, which angers his parents who believe that Natalie did indeed kill Emily. His loyalties are torn, and he also realizes that he has never gotten over Natalie, the girl that broke his heart.
Laura and Natalie reunite to solve the mystery of the book, to find out who Garrett Malone really is, and to discover what really happened that fateful night. Madison does her own investigative work, trying to find out if there is any truth to the novel that is making front-page news. It's been years since they have all been together, but the novel that should never have been written is uncovering skeletons from their past and forcing them together again. Although they had missed the camaraderie of their college years, each of them secretly suspects the other in pushing Emily off the roof that night. With the help of Cole and a few others from their past, they solve the mystery of Garrett Malone, as well as uncover the story of Emily's death.
Freethy had this reviewer guessing until the very end as to who killed Emily, and at one point it almost seemed obvious as to whom the murderer was. Freethy did a good job with adding plot twists here and there to confuse the reader, keeping one in suspense until the very end. This reviewer feels that the author was quite successful with this romantic suspense novel, using Natalie and Cole as the star-crossed lovers who try to convince themselves that they no longer love each other. The romance was not too overwhelming to detract from the mystery that needed to be solved, and the characters all felt believable and logically written. A surprise ending, at least for this reviewer, may catch other readers off guard as well, and kudos to Freethy for achieving that shocking finish. The book was fast paced and judging by how fast this reviewer read the book, it was definitely one that was hard to put down. ALL SHE EVER WANTED was a well-done romantic suspense novel, and it is not always that an author can get it "just right". This novel is highly recommended.

All She Ever Wanted edition by Barbara Freethy Romance eBooks Reviews
This was an easy read, and it held my attention most of the time. The author did a good job of describing the characters and the places in the book. However, I found the personality changes of the characters difficult to believe, as was the tidy wrap-up for each character. I would have preferred for the author to stick with the story of Emily's untimely death, the investigation of that death years later, and how her death changed the lives of those who knew her. The love scenes did not add to the appeal of the book.
Although I finished the book only a week ago, I quickly forgot all the characters and even the storyline until I read another review to refresh my memory.
Story of three sorority sisters and other roommates and family that have found themselves coming together 10 years after the fourth sister fell from the roof of their sorority house. Someone has written a "fiction" book that is exactly their stories. Who would bring all this pain back in a book and accuse one of the sisters of murder? This book is full of mystery, suspense, forgiveness and lost loves. I had a hard time putting this book down and many times stopping myself from cheating from reading the end, which by the way, blew me away. Never saw it coming. Another fabulous by Barbara Freethy!!
Four college roommates and sorority sisters. One dies. Ten years later a book is written and the survivors’ lives are turned upside down. Even though the book was supposedly a work of fiction.
This story has great suspense and mystery all wrapped up in a few stories of love. The plot twists are engaging and the flow of the stories works. This is a multi-dimensional book with several stories that all merit top billing. The characters seem like real people living normal, if sometimes large, lives. I really enjoyed this book. In fact, romantic suspense is one of my new favorite genres, and Barbara Freethy leads the way with her wonderful stories!
Who was Emily really? Was she A Fallen Angel or was she simply just another college student trying out her wings? Sometimes we don't really see the person that is and only see what we believe them to be. Reality can be a hard lesson in life if you chose to see it. A missing journal brings that reality to life and understand allows her mother to finally understand her daughter putting her grief to rest.
With Em's tragic death several lives were shattered to become a mosaic with too many holes and missing pieces to let life go on as it was for Natalie and Cole as well as some of their friends. Then 10 years later a book comes along that triggers a Season of Change and Discovery for the old college friends that had drifted apart and pulls them all back together, willingly or not. Even a little unexpected romance blooms and a marriage in trouble is reborn. A little communication goes a long way clearing the fog of time and mistrust.
In this well crafted Romantic Mystery the pieces start coming together with the effort of friends who, in some cases, became enemies and then friends again as they were forced to wake from a nightmare that had been long hidden. Secrets come to light for all involved and long term assumptions are stripped bare. Even some old friendships are stressed to the breaking point before the unexpected truth brings them back together and allows Emily's passing to be put to rest for family and friends.
Key to the story line seems to be how young college students cope with loss of a friend and sister under suspicious or tragic circumstances.
How would you deal with the same thing or have you?
Time tends to give some clarity but without all the facts there can be a myopic view that clouds the truth. Secrets are exposed and facts are drawn out when communication begins anew once self imposed barriers and misunderstandings are breached.
Set in the San-Fran Bay area this wonderful story brought back some long forgotten memories of my time there and added a touch of reality that is much appreciated.
