A Chance of a Lifetime A Tallgrass Novel Marilyn Pappano Books
Reading one of Pappano's novels is like moving in with a family or families and experiencing first hand their heartaches, hopes and dreams. The Tallgrass series is no exception to the rule. The military families in the series represent every race, every issue and every heartache associated with warriors returning home and trying to define a new normal. Marilyn talks about the static nature of life and the response to change in a way that inspires the reader to examine their own psyche. A Chance of A Lifetime deals with PTSD. The title is a bit of a play on words as the leading character attempted suicide and is trying to return home and reestablish his life. Having worked in mental health for many years, I can assure the reader Ms. Pappano's description of the symptoms and behaviors of someone suffering from PTSD is spot on. The way Marilyn describes flashbacks in the first person is chilling and heart wrenching at the same time. There is a depth and intensity in the series and in this current novel that goes beyond a book you read for escape and enjoyment. Both couples in the book, Cal/Bennie and Joe/Lucy, have a previous history and wade through the difficulties of changing the dynamic of their relationships. Of course, you get to see the other Margarita Girls, a widows' support group, and how they are doing which makes for unity in the series. I just love catching up. All of these books stand alone but you will want to read the stories of the other families. Some of the best alpha heroes ever are in this series. Dalton (be still my heart) and Keegan (fanning self) to name a couple. Prepare to be come attached to the families of Fort Murphy. You will want to have dinner at Mama's and drink Margarita's on Tuesdays at The Three Amigos. Give me a call. I'll join you.Tags : Amazon.com: A Chance of a Lifetime (A Tallgrass Novel) (9781455561582): Marilyn Pappano: Books,Marilyn Pappano,A Chance of a Lifetime (A Tallgrass Novel),Forever,1455561584,Love stories.,Man-woman relationships,Oklahoma,Romance fiction,Soldiers;Fiction.,Veterans,Widows,Widows;Fiction.,American Light Romantic Fiction,Contemporary Women,Family Life,Fiction,Fiction - Romance,Fiction Contemporary Women,Fiction Family Life,Fiction Romance African American,Fiction Romance Contemporary,FictionFamily Life - General,FictionRomance - African American,FictionWomen,Romance,Romance - Contemporary,Romance: Modern
A Chance of a Lifetime A Tallgrass Novel Marilyn Pappano Books Reviews
This is an amazing series. I love the characters and the writing makes you feel the emotions that are being expressed.
I have read all the books in this Tallgrass series. Each is an interesting story but at same time interconnected. I look forward to the next book.
Although this wasn't my favorite in the series, Marilyn Pappano always writes sweet stories about real people with real problems. I love the military aspect to this series and look forward to stories about the other characters she has introduced.
Bennie lost her husband in the war and their friend Calvin was in the same war and he came back with PTSD and he had love Bennie but she fell in love with his friend and after she got married her husband told her not to have anything to do with Calvin. So when he came home they were like strangers till Bennie asked him about the war and his PTSD He came clean about it and they kinda picked up where they left off. You'll have to read the book to find out what happens next.
Marilyn Pappano writes of returning from Afghanistan and Iraq US soldiers and the issues they bring home with them, and the women who have become the Tuesday Margarita Club...aka the Fort Murphy Widows Club.
I would suggest reading this Tallgrass series in order, as characters do reappear. Can it be read as a stand alone? Yes, of course, but I like knowing about some of the reappearing characters.
This book involves two women from the Margarita Club, Lucy and Benita.
I've really enjoyed The Tallgrass books by Marilyn Pappano. In this book we follow the lives, the trials and tribulations of army widows as they face the challenges of picking up the threads of life and facing the challenges of life alone after their men went to war....and didn't return. Pappano has a real gift for creating warm realistic people that make readers care about them ... Cry for them and laugh for them... Highly recommended to all readers looking for a meaty read.
Unfortunately Marilyn Pappano could never write this series fast enough to please me. It is one that I find totally engrossing. The way it brings all of the characters of the Tuesday Night Margarita Club, their families, past and present together in each book, yet manages to concentrate so well on one or two members and their lives at the time.
So glad to finally see Lucy and Joe realizing their mutual feelings are actually returned. I must say though, Bennie and Calvin stole my heart. Although I'm not sure how much of that might actually had to do with Gran and most especially Mama. Not only are those two ladies wise, but two of the funniest characters around. I so look forward to the next trip to Tallgrass, Oklahoma with Ms. Pappano and her memorable characters.
